Edward Felten, co-founder of Offchain Labs, emphasized that Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) networks must adopt responsive pricing mechanisms to achieve effective scalability. Speaking on the limitations of current structures, Felten noted that traditional fee models often struggle with network congestion and cost predictability. To address this, Arbitrum is currently testing a new fee model designed as an alternative to Ethereum's standard EIP-1559 mechanism. This experimental approach aims to better manage price swings and provide more stable costs for end-users. While the development is technical, it represents a significant step toward optimizing L2 infrastructure for mass adoption. Analysts view this move as a long-term positive for the ecosystem, though it may not trigger immediate market volatility for ETH or ARB.
