The AIB Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) is a leading indicator of the health of the Irish manufacturing sector. Based on survey responses from senior executives, it tracks variables such as output, new orders, and employment. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector, while a reading below 50 signals contraction.
The index is a weighted average of five sub-indices: New Orders (30%), Output (25%), Employment (20%), Suppliers' Delivery Times (15%), and Stocks of Purchases (10%).
