The ECB Bank Lending Survey is a quarterly report that provides detailed information on credit standards and loan demand in the Eurozone. It surveys senior loan officers from a representative sample of banks to understand the supply and demand conditions for loans to enterprises and households. This survey is a critical indicator for the ECB to assess how its monetary policy is being transmitted through the banking system. It helps identify potential credit crunches or periods of excessive credit expansion.
The survey is conducted four times a year and measures the net percentage of banks tightening or easing their credit standards. It uses a standardized questionnaire sent to around 150 banks across the Eurozone.
