The Investec Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) provides a snapshot of the health of the manufacturing sector in Ireland. It is based on a survey of purchasing executives in over 400 industrial companies, covering areas such as new orders, inventory levels, production, and employment. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.
The index is a weighted average of five individual sub-indices: New Orders (30%), Output (25%), Employment (20%), Suppliers' Delivery Times (15%), and Stocks of Purchases (10%). Data is seasonally adjusted to provide a clearer picture of underlying trends.
